The curent beta version of iTerm2 seems to be notably slower for scrolling in vim than it was (say) a month ago. Using the same fullscreen window but a much larger font appears to reduce the problem, so the issue appears (to me) to be primarily related to the number of characters being changed, rather than to the number of pixels being drawn. But when full-screen with a smallish font on a 27" iMac, the slowness in linewise scrolling is easily noticeable. At normal terminal sizes (80x25ish), no issue is apparent. The slowness appears to be related to the number of characters which will fit in the window. I've noticed the same speed issues with iTerm2 vs. Anyone know if there is a way to get MacVim like redraw / scrolling performance with iTerm + vim?Įdit: I'm sorry I should have mentioned I tried vim locally with iTerm2 with same everything else and I got similar if not identical laggy performance. I use ctrlp.vim, ctags, lots of things that hinge on me having my entire working environment available to vim where I'm using it. Now I would like to have my cake and eat it too. It's amazing how smooth it is compared to using vim inside iTerm2. O-M-G, it's scrolls and re-draws LIKE BUTTER. Today I randomly installed MacVim just to see if I would have the same issues. I use many plugins and syntax highlighting with jellybeans.vim color scheme.Īlso about 6 months ago I got a 24" monitor, so the size of my iTerm2 windows have been growing larger and it's just making the lag even worse. I've found many different settings suggested to tweak and nothing has really ever seemed to make a huge difference. I've scoured the web about this off and on forever. One thing that I've been sensitive to is the vim redraw speed and particularly when I use the letter 'j' for example to scroll down in a large program a line at a time. For a long time now I've been using iTerm2 to ssh into a debian linux development server to do my coding. ![]() I'm working on a mac doing software development(late 2008 macbook unibody).
